After our brainstorm last week, our team decided to do a winter themed yoyo. We landed on a snow globe yoyo, and we spent this week fleshing out what this would look like in greater detail.
We started with our designs from our last meeting:
Collectively as a team, we chose the V2 orientation for the yoyo. The next critical point of contention was if we wanted liquid inside our yoyo like a traditional snow globe. Because we desired a spherical shape as well as a snow globe design on both sides of the yoyo, we figured through some quick calculations that the yoyo would be too heavy if we included liquid inside. In addition, we wanted to focus our design efforts on the decorative parts inside the dome instead of on how to secure the liquid inside the yoyo.
After making this decision, we created the shape and look of the dome.
After our team came to this decision, we then needed to choose what components were to be inside the dome and began to think about how they would be constructed. We decided to include a snowman and Christmas tree.
For construction, we decided a thermoformed dome would be best with the tree, snowman body, snowman decorations, and yoyo base injection molded.
