After meeting in lab to discuss our current design we decided that we needed to think through what we were going to build a bit more carefully. The biggest issue with the "Version-2" or 3D snowman design was that the individual injection molded pieces would need to be extremely small to fit in the globe. Because of this it was impossible to get the level of color and detail we wanted for the snow globe to look complete. So after going back to the drawing board individually we decided to return to a more 2D "Version 1" design with....
Snow-Yo 2.0
The new and improved Snow-Yo is constructed with an injection molded base (seen in light blue) which all the other components snap fit into. While the smaller features like the eyes and nose are small, they don't require the same level of detail work as the original idea and a single mold for injection molding can create multiple at once to save on time.
The snow-yo does maintain its thermoformed cover to give it its snow globe appearance and will be filled with fake snow or glitter to make the illusion even more real. Additionally we've added a thermoformed base to both add to the snow globe illusion as well as give the round yo-yo a place to rest.
Personally we all believe that this new design is significantly more feasible given the constraints of the class, but it also manages to maintain the fun and Christmas theming we desired from the beginning. All that's left is for the design review and then we get to building!
